Gladiolus papilio Ruby
This is a striking perennial from South Africa. It will quickly form large clumps as the corms rapidly bulking up. During the summer the flower spikes form and large deep red flowers open systematically up the spike over a long period. Height 90cm. They are best planted in well drained soil with a sunny aspect. They will be dormant during the winter to return to life in the spring. Hardy if well drained. These have finished flowering for this year as they were early for us with the fine summer we've had, but will flower again next summer bigger and better.
