The Queen Protea getting it's common name due to the fact that it is the second largest flowering Protea, after the King Protea (Protea cynaroides). It is one of the most attractive and sought after of the proteas. The fluffy flower heads are beautiful and photos never do the plant and flower justice. The flowers vary naturally in colour depending on the plant the seed was collected from which would have been wild pollinated in South Africa where we source our seed from. It will grow with a round bushy form and could be grown in the ground in a sheltered garden in the warmer parts of the country. It will also grow well in containers and pots in a free draining compost that is ericaceous (acidic) and free from fertilizer.
