A small shrub reaching approx 1m plus in height. With glaucous grey foliage that is lovely but the show stopping feature of this plant is the spectacular flowers. An enlarged red bract with a calyx that envelopes the dark red to purple globe shaped corolla. These really do contrast with the needle like greyish blue leaves. Growing in the mountains in the Ceres region it is often exposed to snow at higher altitudes in the winter and in summer it will experience drought conditions and temperatures up to the high thirties celsius. Best grown in full sun in an acidic soil or ericaceous compost.
