Agave stricta rubra

With a common name of the Hedgehog Agave thanks to its fabulous form obviously. With a rosette of long narrow leaves that can get up to 40cm long and have a single dark terminal spine on each leaf. As the plant matures it will throw out offsets, and during long dry spells the leaves can become red tinged. In parts of the UK that are relatively frost free you may be able to over winter outdoors in a very well drained soil and for frost prone parts you can container grow and they will be quite happy. Keep dry in the winter and grow in a sunny position.
