Leucadendron 'Burgundy Sunset'
Burgundy sunset is another great Leucadendron with an evergreen upright habit. The branching habit really shows off the dark foliage and leathery dark maroon leaves. The bracts are formed in the summer and start off a yellow-green in the centre and mature to a reddish purple colour. Being a member of the Protea family it prefers an acidic substrate whether that is a soil in your garden or compost in a container. They do grow well in containers but you will need to water with rain water if you live where your tap water is hard. As this is a foliage plant I suggest you protect from the worst of the weather the winter can throw at it. That can be a sheltered area in your garden or a cold greenhouse. Height and spread 2m. Protect from severe cold.
